Developing Short-Term UX Research Strategy for Athlete-Tech Startup
Role: UX Research Contractor
Client: Hale Sports
Core Responsibilities: Develop and execute 6-month UX Research strategy and plan for early stage athletic optimization startup
Methodology: Discovery Interview, Heuristic Evaluation
Tools: Zoom, Miro, Condens, GSuite
Project Overview:
Early stage startup Hale Sports focuses on athletic optimization by partnering with collegiate athlete teams to bring high-performance teams science-backed testing and reporting. I was brought on to develop a 6-month UX Research strategy and plan surrounding their coach-facing team management tool.
Problem:
The current coach-facing platform that Hale Sports offers is not the most intuitive for users and may not appropriately address all user needs.
Proposed UX Research Plan & Methodology

Heuristic Evaluation of Athlete Onboarding Flow
The athlete onboarding process starts with a new athlete going to the Hale Sports registration screen to review onboarding instructions and input their unique registration code, followed by 4 screens where their personal & demographic data is collected and authorizations are signed.
In performing a heuristic evaluation and usability review of the process on a desktop and mobile browser, I compiled and prioritized the following findings and mitigations:

Discovery Interview with Current Coach User
In scheduling a 30-minute interview with a long-time coach user, I split the time between shadowing the user and asking him a few questions. The recorded interview was conducted over Zoom with another Hale Sports employee on the call.
